Dover Crossing March

by John Cheetham

This concert march (performance time a little over 5 minutes) is a superb new march by a recognized and seasoned composer. It would make a fine opening march at contest for Mature Bands. Rooted in English tradition, this is a multi-functional march which can be used as a concert march, a festival piece or as a graduation march. Although the composition employs a contemporary rhythmic, melodic and harmonic syntax, the work, nevertheless, pays homage to great symphonic marches of Edward Elgar, William Walton and Gordon Jacob. The title, inspired by a recent visit to the southeastern part of England, connotes the voyage from Dover to the European continent via the English Channel. 3:55 long.
